Responsibilities
- Lead backend engineering and software architecture for material generation, compound discovery, and scientific workflow applications.
- Design and implement scalable APIs and integration patterns.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and provide technical leadership without line authority.
- Conduct code reviews and establish standards for maintainability, performance, security, testing, and documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and scientific stakeholders to translate complex needs into practical solutions.
- Optimize system performance and scalability, including scientific data workflows.
- Lead production incident response and troubleshooting efforts.
- Promote rigorous review and thoughtful use of AI-assisted engineering.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience in Python or Java backend engineering.
- Demonstrable experience with software architecture, integration patterns, scalable APIs, and cloud platforms.
- Experience with AI-assisted engineering, quality, testing, documentation, and scientific workflow partnership.
- Experience providing technical leadership without line authority.
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Agriculture, life sciences, scientific computing, regulated enterprise, internal platforms, distributed engineering organizations, CI/CD, DevOps, infrastructure automation, mentoring, performance optimization, and scientific data workflow experience are bonus qualifications.
