Responsibilities
- Lead firmware workstreams for internal R&D embedded-systems initiatives from exploratory research and proof of concept through functional prototypes and engineering handoff.
- Produce feasibility reports covering software and architecture options, integration risks, and recommended PoC approaches.
- Implement firmware bring-up, bootloaders, board support packages, device drivers, and embedded Linux components.
- Develop PoC firmware and cloud/edge demo applications with validation reports and acceptance criteria.
- Build functional firmware prototypes and produce system validation evidence.
- Create firmware CI/CD pipelines and automated unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop test suites.
- Prepare engineering handoff packages with build and release instructions, APIs and contracts, validation notes, known limitations, and production guidance.
- Scout and evaluate new hardware and software integrations and produce short evaluation reports.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- At least three years of professional experience delivering embedded firmware or software for hardware products from prototype through MVP or handoff.
- Strong C/C++ skills for embedded development.
- Proficiency with Python, JavaScript, and Bash for tooling and tests.
- Practical experience with FreeRTOS, Zephyr, embedded Linux, Yocto, Buildroot, Debian packaging, and kernel or driver development.
- Hands-on board bring-up experience using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Strong knowledge of SPI, I2C, UART, RS485, UDP/TCP-IP, MQTT, CoAP, and HTTP/REST.
- Experience with 2G/3G/4G/LTE, NB-IoT, LoRa, Sigfox, and modem integration.
- Proficiency with Git and modern CI/CD tooling, including automated firmware pipelines and unit-testing frameworks.
- Experience with Docker and Linux packaging using Debian, RPM, or Yocto.
- Experience with vibration or vibe coding and productized vibe firmware.
- Familiarity with SoC/SoM platforms and Infineon, TI, NXP, or ST MCU families is preferred.
- Experience with FPGA/SoC integration, bootloaders, BSPs, device drivers, kernel and user layers, cloud IoT platforms, telemetry or observability services, embedded Rust, or modern embedded frameworks is preferred.
- Background in startups or experience as a co-founder or core contributor in high-growth engineering teams is preferred.
