Base Salary

$237k - $306k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Drive technical vision and architecture across Payroll, Scheduling, Time Tracking, and HRM product domains.
  • Develop and execute Homebase’s API strategy for internal velocity, external integrations, and partnerships.
  • Lead decomposition of core product systems into well-bounded services using domain-driven design and SOA principles.
  • Identify and resolve cross-cutting issues involving data consistency, performance, and reliability.
  • Establish engineering standards and patterns while mentoring senior and staff engineers.
  • Partner with Product, Data, Design, and Engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business priorities.
  • Champion AI adoption, build or deploy AI-enabled engineering capabilities, and measure their impact on velocity, quality, and developer experience.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience with significant depth in distributed systems and evolving legacy architectures.
  • Strong background in Ruby and Rails is ideal.
  • Experience defining and executing technical strategy across multiple product domains or teams.
  • Deep expertise in domain-driven design, API design, SOA, and event-driven architectures.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and guiding teams through architectural change.
  • Experience with payroll, workforce management, or similarly complex business domains is preferred.
  • Ability to influence without authority and communicate complex technical decisions to engineers, product managers, and executives.
  • Active fluency with AI tools and experience helping teams adopt AI productively.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a high-velocity environment where shipping and iteration are emphasized.
