Responsibilities
- Reproduce customer target environments in a lab and validate solution architectures before on-site deployment when possible.
- Design and validate production Portworx architectures for complex multi-cluster, disaster recovery, KubeVirt migration, regulated, air-gapped, and cloud-native CaaS environments.
- Lead hands-on implementation of storage classes, KVDB topology, snapshot and backup policies, replication, capacity models, and sizing.
- Perform failure-mode and performance validation covering node or availability-zone loss, network partitions, and upgrade paths.
- Troubleshoot production-blocking issues during critical customer rollouts.
- Create runbooks, reference architectures, and automation that can be reused across engagements.
- Train customer platform teams to operate independently after handoff.
- Build relationships with senior infrastructure and platform engineering leaders and advise on broader platform strategy.
- Visit established customer accounts, maintain relationships, identify evolving needs, and surface expansion opportunities.
- Understand customer development environments and workflows to address broader CaaS platform needs.
- Structure field feedback on bugs, feature gaps, and roadmap signals for Product and Engineering.
- Coordinate with Sales Engineering, Customer Success, and Support to identify engagements requiring Forward Deployed Engineering involvement.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in infrastructure/platform engineering, SRE, field engineering, or solutions engineering.
- Deep hands-on production Kubernetes expertise, with CKA/CKS certification or equivalent production experience.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise storage infrastructure, including SAN/NAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NVMe/TCP, multipath, dm-multipath, and LVM.
- Solid Linux systems administration experience.
- Experience across both on-premises and cloud/CaaS deployment models.
- Working knowledge of customer development environments, application deployment patterns, and dev/test workflows sufficient to understand broader CaaS platform needs.
- Virtualization and migration experience, particularly with VMware or KubeVirt, is preferred.
- Experience with Portworx, CSI-based storage platforms, or enterprise storage vendors such as Pure Storage, NetApp, or Dell is highly valued.
- Strong relationship-building, technical communication, technical writing, whiteboarding, and live incident response skills.
