Base Salary

$144k - $224k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and operate large-scale distributed control-plane components while considering failure modes, multi-tenant isolation, and blast radius.
  • Simplify systems by consolidating abstractions, removing dead code, reducing configuration sprawl, and challenging unnecessary complexity.
  • Own systems end to end, participate in incident response and root-cause analyses, and drive improvements that reduce cost and maintenance.
  • Solve problems in cluster orchestration, capacity provisioning, lifecycle workflows, multi-tenant infrastructure, query routing, and operational tooling.
  • Use AI coding assistants and GenAI tools throughout design, coding, testing, review, debugging, and operations while validating generated output.
  • Write robust, efficient, and maintainable software in Java, Rust, Python, or Go.
  • Partner with senior engineers to turn ambiguous requirements into concrete deliverables and prototype, test, and validate solutions.
  • Contribute upstream to OpenSearch and Apache Lucene.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • At least 2 years of non-internship experience designing or architecting new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
  • At least 1 year of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
  • At least 1 year designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded, or distributed software applications, tools, systems, or services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
  • At least 1 year of object-oriented design experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
  • Preferred: at least 3 years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Preferred: bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
