Responsibilities
- Lead technical decision-making and architecture for the Traffic Team.
- Design and implement scalable, reliable, and performant solutions for rate limiting, routing, and related traffic-management problems.
- Maintain and improve the GitHub Load Balancer and other traffic-management systems.
- Write, review, and maintain production code primarily in Go and Ruby/Rails.
- Mentor engineers in technical and architectural decision-making.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and team meetings.
Requirements
- At least 9 years of relevant software engineering or technical-discipline experience, or an associate degree plus 8 years, bachelor's degree plus 7 years, master's degree plus 5 years, doctorate plus 3 years, or equivalent experience.
- At least 4 years building and supporting large, high-traffic applications at scale in platform or infrastructure domains.
- At least 4 years supporting and building cloud-native workloads in Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- At least 2 years maintaining a load balancer, including experience with abuse protection mechanisms for DDoS attacks and load shedding.
- Proven experience maintaining and delivering production software in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
- Preferred experience with HAProxy or another open-source load balancer.
- Preferred two or more years of Golang experience.
- Preferred experience building or maintaining planetary-scale engineering systems and working with remote, distributed teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
