Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain cnBNG Control Plane microservices in C, C++, and Go on the SMI/Kubernetes platform.
- Implement subscriber-management features including PPPoE/IPoE sessions, DHCPv4/DHCPv6, Prefix Delegation, RADIUS/AAA, PAP/CHAP, accounting, Change of Authorization, IPAM, subscriber policy, and QoS.
- Develop CP-UP separation over the State Control Interface, including session programming, state download/replay, and reconciliation with Silicon One UPFs.
- Build scale and high-availability capabilities including cluster expansion, N:M and geo/warm redundancy, CP-GR switchover, and subscriber-session continuity.
- Own unit, component, integration, system, regression, scale, performance, resiliency, and high-availability testing for assigned features.
- Develop reusable Python test automation with pyATS/Genie or equivalent and integrate it into CI/CD and regression pipelines.
- Build and maintain Docker, Kubernetes, and SMI-based test environments for subscriber-scale, traffic, failover, upgrade/rollback, process-restart, and subscriber-churn scenarios.
- Optimize control-plane performance, memory usage, and convergence for millions of subscribers across large UPF fleets.
- Develop and maintain gRPC/REST APIs, YANG/OpenConfig models, CLI functionality, and model-driven telemetry.
- Troubleshoot distributed issues across the Control Plane, Silicon One UPFs, and the SMI/Kubernetes stack, and drive root-cause analysis.
- Manage code with Git, participate in code reviews, collaborate with Test Engineering, and deliver features through the release lifecycle.
- Mentor junior engineers and use approved AI coding assistants and engineering agents for development, testing, analysis, triage, and documentation with responsible validation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Eight to fourteen years of software engineering experience, with systems/embedded or cloud-native networking-product experience.
- Strong C/C++ and/or Go programming on Linux, plus Python for test automation and scripting.
- Experience writing unit, integration, system, scale, and performance tests and building automation with pyATS/Genie or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of IP networking and subscriber/broadband protocols including PPPoE, IPoE, DHCPv4/v6, RADIUS/AAA, PPP, and L2TP.
- Knowledge of Cisco Silicon One NPU-based UPFs, including forwarding architecture, Control Plane-to-UPF programming, and subscriber-session mapping.
- Understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, service meshes, high availability, redundancy, state reconciliation, and distributed-system scale.
- Experience building and consuming gRPC/REST APIs and YANG/protobuf data models.
