Base Salary
$160k - $260k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own significant parts of the AI platform end to end, from API design through production behavior under load.
- Design and operate the model gateway, including provider abstraction, routing, failover, and configurable provider switching.
- Build an agent surface that works across frameworks and deployment environments.
- Develop evaluation and benchmarking capabilities, production guardrails, and enforceable responsible-AI standards.
- Own inference cost and latency, including spend attribution and routing decisions.
- Ensure platform reliability, performance, observability, and production incident response.
- Set technical direction, make platform architecture decisions, and provide stable abstractions for other engineering teams.
- Mentor across a distributed team and produce durable designs and documentation.
Requirements
- 8+ years building and operating production systems.
- Direct experience shipping agentic systems to production, including agentic patterns, retrieval, tool calling, inference cost, and latency.
- Hands-on experience with more than one model provider and their practical differences.
- Experience with evaluation, observability, or guardrail tooling for agentic systems.
- A strong platform engineering track record on systems used by other engineering teams.
- Hands-on depth in at least one major public cloud, including running and debugging production workloads.
- Experience designing stable APIs and abstractions for other teams to build against.
- Demonstrable production ownership, including on-call, incident response, and root cause analysis.
- Experience driving decisions and delivering work through a large organization.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication.
- Preferred: experience building or operating an internal developer platform or shared multi-tenant service.
- Preferred: Kubernetes and container-based delivery experience.
- Preferred: infrastructure-as-code experience.
- Preferred: enterprise security, data privacy, or responsible-AI review experience.
