Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement embedded software and advanced control algorithms for power conversion, converter, and motor control applications.
- Lead engineering analysis, modeling, simulation, and testing to improve product performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines on software architecture, technical troubleshooting, and solutions from concept through product delivery.
- Serve as a technical expert by evaluating emerging technologies and recommending approaches that influence product and engineering direction.
- Develop embedded controller software and related technical documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and 8+ years of R&D software development experience, or a master’s degree and 6+ years, or a doctorate and 4+ years.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ for microprocessor and DSP-based development.
- Experience with low-level embedded development, debugging tools, emulators, software build tools, version control, and scripting languages.
- Experience designing and implementing control algorithms for power conversion circuits, active converters, or motor control systems.
- Strong knowledge of modern control theory, including observers, estimators, and filtering techniques.
- Working knowledge of microprocessors, DSPs, FPGAs, memory devices, OPAMPs, and A/D and D/A converters.
- Working knowledge of power circuit topologies and active and passive power components, including IGBTs, diodes, SCRs, inductors, transformers, and capacitors.
- Understanding of power conversion utility interactions, including power factor correction, harmonic mitigation, and power quality.
- English proficiency and strong communication and influencing skills for cross-functional technical leadership.
- Preferred experience includes embedded systems, power electronics, motor control, power conversion, or related industrial applications.
- Candidates must already have work authorization permitting them to work for ABB in the United States.
