Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain shared database platform components, client libraries, migration tooling, safety checks, query standards, and developer-facing abstractions.
- Establish reliable and scalable database connection, transaction, migration, schema, indexing, and query patterns across application environments.
- Build automation, internal tooling, developer self-service capabilities, and migration guardrails that reduce manual intervention and operational risk.
- Architect and improve AWS RDS/Aurora database infrastructure, including replicas, backups, failover, parameter groups, monitoring, and capacity planning.
- Investigate production issues using application telemetry, database metrics, logs, query plans, traces, and cloud infrastructure data.
- Create dashboards, alerts, SLOs, SLIs, runbooks, and operational readiness checks for database-backed services.
- Improve backup validation, restore testing, disaster recovery, failover readiness, business continuity, access controls, auditability, encryption, secrets management, and least-privilege controls.
- Partner with application, infrastructure, security, compliance, and engineering teams; review designs and database changes; mentor engineers; and lead database reliability initiatives.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of professional experience in software engineering, infrastructure engineering, database engineering, SRE, or platform engineering.
- Strong software engineering ability in at least one production language such as Go, Python, or TypeScript.
- Demonstrated ability to build production-quality internal tools, libraries, frameworks, services, or platform components used by other engineers.
- Deep hands-on experience with relational databases, especially MySQL and/or PostgreSQL, in highly available production environments.
- Strong knowledge of connection pooling, transactions, isolation levels, retries, timeouts, deadlocks, locking, migrations, and query execution.
- Experience with shared database access patterns, ORM wrappers, migration frameworks, or developer-facing database tooling.
- Hands-on AWS RDS/Aurora experience covering provisioning, upgrades, replicas, backups, failover, monitoring, parameter tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with RDS Proxy, PgBouncer, ProxySQL, or application-level connection pooling.
- Ability to analyze performance using query plans, indexes, slow query logs, wait events, locks, metrics, and application traces.
- Experience designing safe production database migration processes and observability for database-backed applications.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD systems such as Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, or Helm.
- Ability to influence teams through design reviews, documentation, technical standards, and practical implementation.
- Demonstrated experience with Claude or equivalent large language model tools is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
- Preferred qualifications include Golang development, database libraries and SDKs, microservices platforms, fintech or high-volume transactional systems, compliance-sensitive environments, access governance, distributed systems, operational automation, observability tools, and supporting data stores such as Elasticsearch.
