Base Salary
$170k - $195k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build shared GraphQL API frameworks, authentication and authorization systems, and internal tooling used across Betterment.
- Develop secure, first-party MCP access to Betterment APIs and support AI-native API development workflows.
- Embed with product teams, establish healthy shared-system standards, and provide guidance on platform adoption and maintenance.
- Participate in incident response, observability initiatives, testing, and safe production rollouts.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical direction alongside senior and staff engineers.
Requirements
- Experience building on or contributing to a shared API platform, ideally with GraphQL.
- Experience with modern authentication and authorization patterns, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and passkeys.
- Experience operating production systems that other engineering teams depend on, including observability, testing, and safe rollout practices.
- Full-stack development experience with GraphQL and one or more server-side languages such as Ruby, Java, TypeScript, C#, or Python.
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines and teams and navigate customer quality, delivery speed, and regulatory requirements.
- Comfort using AI tooling and reasoning about safe API access for AI agents.
