Responsibilities

  • Drive GitOps and automation development as an embedded technical lead.
  • Collaborate with the IS architect to align solutions with the organization’s architecture vision.
  • Design and architect internal services as products.
  • Develop infrastructure-as-code practices and continuously improve automation processes.
  • Automate software operations across private and public clouds while accounting for distributed-system complexity.
  • Maintain operational responsibility for Canonical’s core services, networks, and infrastructure.
  • Set up, maintain, and use Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, monitoring, and alerting systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance investigations.
  • Support globally distributed engineering, operations, and support peers.
  • Develop larger automation projects and eliminate manual tasks.
  • Share expertise through design sessions, mentorship, and collaborative work.
  • Carry final responsibility for time-critical escalations.

Requirements

  • Experience with IT operations automation, infrastructure as code, and modern hosting architecture across private and public clouds.
  • Python software development experience on large projects.
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems.
  • Proven experience managing and deploying cloud infrastructure with code.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of Linux storage, including Ceph and databases.
  • Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree or greater, preferably in computer science or a related engineering field.
  • Strong English communication skills across written, verbal, and in-person channels.
  • Ability to troubleshoot from the kernel through the web and collaborate with others when appropriate.
  • Familiarity with open-source technologies, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work flexibly, and collaborate within distributed teams.
