Responsibilities
- Design and deploy large-scale machine learning systems powering search and discovery across Apple platforms.
- Build and optimize distributed systems, data-processing pipelines, retrieval pipelines, ranking systems, and rapid query-execution systems.
- Apply machine learning, natural language understanding, information retrieval, and generative AI to model user intent and improve relevance and personalization.
- Translate product goals and advanced research into secure, production-ready features used by millions of customers.
- Collaborate with product, design, research, and other cross-functional teams from concept through launch.
- Develop systems that operate at global scale while meeting strict privacy standards.
Requirements
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, and Go for scalable distributed and machine learning systems.
- Experience with machine learning, natural language processing, information retrieval, or large language models.
- In-depth knowledge of search and information retrieval fundamentals, including indexing, ranking, retrieval algorithms, and ranking algorithms.
- Experience building big data pipelines using Hadoop, Java, Scala, and Spark.
- Industrial experience in search, classification, recommendation systems, or related fields.
- Expertise in large-scale distributed and client-server systems.
- Familiarity with A/B testing and data-driven product development.
- Experience with search or recommendation systems, semantic retrieval, or vector databases is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
