Responsibilities
- Define a first-class, testable exactly-once payment guarantee across partial failures, retries, and cross-service races.
- Design internal and external API contracts, including versioning, backward compatibility, and webhook delivery guarantees.
- Direct multi-rail money-movement architecture across ACH, wire, RTP/FedNow, card networks, sponsor banks, and Visa Direct.
- Own batching, funding, settlement matching, reconciliation, and exception handling.
- Establish architecture-review, RFC, monitoring, alerting, reliability, and observability standards.
- Set engineering practices, review standards, and technical hiring criteria for the Payments Core team.
Requirements
- 12+ years of production payments or financial-systems experience, including operating at tens to hundreds of billions in GMV and owning architecture through production.
- Direct production experience designing or operating a double-entry ledger, including derived balances, hot-account partitioning, and schema evolution under load.
- Experience building idempotent, exactly-once payment flows in real-time, high-throughput systems under partial failure and retries.
- Experience with distributed data architecture, petabyte-scale storage systems, and high-throughput services sustaining sub-50ms latency under production load.
- Deep experience with settlement and reconciliation against bank files, card-network settlement, and ACH returns.
- Experience with multi-rail money movement and multi-financial-institution orchestration, including direct sponsor-bank and network integrations.
- Ability to establish a high technical bar through influence, example, coding, and design reviews.
- Preferred experience at a comparable payments platform such as Stripe, Block/Square, Modern Treasury, Marqeta, or Adyen.
- Preferred experience modernizing or hardening load-bearing payments infrastructure without interrupting money movement.
- Familiarity with PCI DSS, ISO 20022 messaging, and scheme-level settlement file formats.
