Responsibilities
- Build and evolve the lakehouse platform so data workflows can read and write Apache Iceberg tables.
- Migrate Spotify data pipelines to the new platform using tooling, standards, and hands-on support.
- Manage BigQuery reservations and capacity at Spotify scale.
- Build monitoring, anti-pattern detection, and BigQuery tooling such as the BigQuery MCP server.
- Participate in weekly support and shared on-call rotations, debug production issues, and automate recurring toil.
Requirements
- Solid experience building and operating production backend services with Java or Scala.
- Comfort working with GCP and Kubernetes, including kubectl output, IAM, quotas, CRDs, and operators.
- Experience with Apache Iceberg, JVM-based processing frameworks such as Spark, Beam, or Flink, or cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Databricks.
- Ability to reason across multiple system layers and own production systems.
- Clear written communication and ability to work asynchronously across US and EU time zones.
