Responsibilities
- Develop embedded Linux software, firmware, and board-support packages for FPGA-based embedded systems.
- Build and deploy embedded Linux distributions using Yocto, Buildroot, or similar tools.
- Develop device-tree configurations, low-level drivers, and hardware interfaces for FPGA peripherals, sensors, communications devices, and microcontrollers.
- Integrate FPGA SoC platforms, microcontrollers, electronics, and higher-level software into control, acquisition, timing, signal-processing, and communications systems.
- Perform board bring-up, hardware–firmware integration, automated testing, debugging, and validation using Python and benchtop test equipment.
- Produce maintainable software and technical documentation across prototyping, deployment, and maintenance.
- Collaborate with software, electronics, physics, and technician teams while communicating technical risks, findings, and design decisions.
- Own assigned work from requirements definition through implementation, testing, and delivery.
Requirements
- Strong experience developing embedded Linux on FPGA SoC platforms.
- Experience configuring, building, and deploying embedded Linux distributions with Yocto, Buildroot, or similar tools, including FPGA board-support package integration.
- Experience with board bring-up, bootloaders, the Linux kernel, device trees, drivers, and software deployment.
- Experience developing in C/C++ and Rust, or willingness to develop in Rust, for embedded Linux or microcontroller systems.
- Experience with Xilinx tools, ideally Vivado.
- Experience with Ethernet, SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, GPIO, DMA, ADC, and DAC interfaces.
- Python experience in test automation, instrument control, or analysis.
- Proficiency with Git and CI systems and the ability to work in multidisciplinary hardware, software, and physics teams.
- Desirable experience includes VHDL or Verilog FPGA development on Xilinx FPGAs, high-throughput data acquisition, streaming, buffering, multi-core processing, RF sensing, timing, synchronization, and signal processing.
- Desirable experience includes networked instrumentation and SCPI, VXI-11/LXI, MQTT, gRPC, or REST APIs.
- Systems and requirements engineering experience, including UML or SysML, and experience managing or improving CI/CD pipelines.
