Base Salary
$195k - $343k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define multi-quarter and multi-year technical roadmaps and direction for Snap’s Service Infrastructure platform.
- Design, build, and operate foundational backend and distributed systems supporting critical services.
- Lead ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives from architecture through implementation, rollout, and iteration.
- Partner with infrastructure and product engineering teams on priorities, trade-offs, and platform investments.
- Improve developer and operator experience through durable systems, abstractions, and mechanisms.
- Drive reliability, observability, incident response, performance, cost efficiency, and operational excellence across mission-critical infrastructure.
- Mentor and elevate engineers and provide technical leadership across team boundaries.
- Identify responsible opportunities to apply AI to platform quality, developer productivity, and operational workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 9+ years of software development experience, or a master’s degree with 8+ years, or a PhD with 5+ years.
- Experience serving as a technical lead, domain expert, or owner of complex technical initiatives.
- Experience building and operating backend or distributed systems in production.
- Experience leading architecture or platform direction beyond an individual team and influencing partner teams.
- Deep experience with backend services or distributed systems at significant scale.
- Strong system design knowledge spanning APIs, service architecture, compute platforms, storage, observability, and workflow orchestration.
- Experience owning highly available, mission-critical systems, including operational readiness and incident response.
- Preferred experience includes service infrastructure, microservices, cloud infrastructure, storage systems, platform architecture, Kubernetes, containerized systems, developer platforms, internal infrastructure tooling, and long-term technical strategy.
- Preferred backend programming experience with Go, Java, Python, C++, or similar languages; experience applying AI to infrastructure or developer productivity is a plus.
