Responsibilities
- Review technical designs for privacy risks across merchant, customer, partner, and employee data.
- Assess controls for compliance with CCPA, GDPR, and Shopify’s internal privacy policies.
- Build and maintain internal tooling that supports the privacy compliance program.
- Review pull requests and provide engineering support for internal tools.
- Partner with Legal Privacy, Data, Product, and Engineering teams to identify and prioritize privacy risks.
- Evaluate the implementation and configuration of cryptography, hashing, encryption, and large-scale data infrastructure mechanisms.
Requirements
- Experienced developer with a genuine interest in privacy protection.
- Understanding of encryption, hashing, and salting, including implementation details relevant to privacy guarantees.
- Working understanding of how AI and machine learning systems interact with personal data.
- Comfort with AI-assisted development.
- Ability to read codebases, write code, and build internal tooling from the ground up.
- Experience with large-scale data infrastructure through engineering or privacy work.
