Base Salary
$230k - $385k/yr
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement privacy-preserving systems across data collection, storage, processing, and access layers.
- Develop and apply privacy engineering frameworks, including data minimization, differential privacy, and anonymization or pseudonymization techniques, to production services.
- Build and scale role-based access, audit logging, redaction and tokenization systems, data retention policies, and privacy incident detection.
- Integrate privacy requirements into system designs with infrastructure and product teams.
- Translate GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other regulatory obligations into technical controls and workflows with legal, security, and compliance teams.
- Conduct privacy risk assessments and mitigate identified risks through design changes, automation, or monitoring.
- Mentor engineers and promote privacy as a core engineering discipline.
- Drive cross-organizational privacy reviews, developer education, and privacy tooling roadmaps.
Requirements
- 5+ years of industry experience in software engineering, security engineering, or privacy engineering, with significant ownership of privacy or data protection features.
- Fluency in at least one major programming language such as Python, Go, Rust, C++, or Java.
- Strong understanding of privacy technologies and principles, including anonymization, encryption, secure computation, privacy threat modeling, and differential privacy.
- Experience building scalable infrastructure and implementing controls in distributed systems, data platforms, or ML pipelines.
- Familiarity with global privacy regulations and their technical implications.
- Ability to collaborate with and influence legal, compliance, product, and engineering teams.
- Experience with cloud platforms and large-scale data systems is preferred.
- Background in security engineering, trust and safety, or data governance is preferred.
- Contributions to privacy open-source projects or research are preferred.
- Experience in a regulated or highly sensitive data environment is preferred.
