Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale and connect it to business-impacting projects.
- Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, and engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes that multiply team effectiveness.
- Own team operations and availability, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call support.
- Establish code review and design standards and promote quality and ownership through writing and tech talks.
- Develop talent by providing feedback, guidance, and leadership by example.
- Design, develop, and launch backend systems and major features at scale.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
- Experience building highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
- Proficiency with backend programming languages such as Python or Kotlin.
- Experience delivering major features or system components, deprecating existing functionality, and defining technical and execution plans.
- Ability to understand systems from low-level language idioms through large-scale architecture.
- Demonstrated growth through gathering and applying feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
