Base Salary
$180k - $250k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and implement perception algorithms for detection, tracking, avoidance, and state estimation.
- Integrate machine-learning models with classical perception algorithms in real-time pipelines.
- Optimize perception code for execution on embedded platforms.
- Build tests and expand simulation environments to evaluate algorithms and prevent regressions.
- Partner with vehicle software, UI, and operations teams to create actionable operator displays.
- Lead sensor selection and evaluation across performance, power, and cost tradeoffs.
- Set architecture and technical direction for the perception stack.
- Mentor teammates and improve software engineering practices.
- Test and tune perception algorithms at local maritime launch sites.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 4+ years working on perception problems in fielded systems.
- Deep experience processing real-time camera, radar, and/or LiDAR data on embedded or compute-limited platforms.
- Strong command of clustering, segmentation, filtering, sensor fusion, and probabilistic tracking such as Kalman or particle filters.
- Familiarity with modern computer vision models and ML-based components.
- Expert-level Python and deep fluency with NumPy, SciPy, and OpenCV, including profiling and numerical-code optimization.
- Strong grounding in 3D geometry, coordinate frames, transforms, and sensor calibration.
- Ability to architect subsystems, lead technical efforts, and mentor engineers.
- Strong technical communication and collaboration skills.
- Preferred experience with training or fine-tuning perception models, C++, CUDA, CuPy, Numba, ROS or similar robotics middleware, robotics simulation, maritime or acoustic data, and path-planning or control algorithms.
