Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement end-to-end systems across cross-platform apps, cloud services, backend integrations, and connected cutting devices.
  • Champion AI-native engineering practices, including agentic coding, AI-assisted reviews, test generation, and AI-augmented architecture work.
  • Lead architecture governance through ADR authoring and review, architecture reviews, versioned integration contracts, and traceability for major pull requests.
  • Own planning, estimation, delivery accountability, large-scale refactoring, and modernization efforts.
  • Ensure reliability, security, and performance through retries, secure authentication, encryption, certificate validation, permissions, failure recovery, and observability.
  • Design and maintain Bluetooth, USB, and Wi-Fi connectivity, including pairing, provisioning, discovery, reconnection, and platform-constraint handling.
  • Partner with product, design, QA, manufacturing, firmware/electrical engineering, AI/ML, support, and security teams.
  • Own safe releases using feature flags, progressive rollouts, kill switches, A/B experiments, and telemetry-driven health metrics.
  • Mentor engineering leaders and senior engineers on architecture, performance, user experience, reliability, cost, and implementation tradeoffs.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience shipping production software across client applications, backend services, and device integration.
  • Strong proficiency in several of Swift, Kotlin, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, React, and Python.
  • At least one year of hands-on use of modern AI engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and agentic SDKs.
  • Production experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities, including model orchestration, retrieval, agentic patterns, evaluations, and latency, cost, and reliability tradeoffs.
  • Experience building cross-platform products at scale across iOS, Android, desktop, and web using shared code, platform abstraction layers, and disciplined API contracts.
  • Strong device-connectivity expertise across Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB, including BLE GATT design, Wi-Fi provisioning, and mDNS/SSDP discovery.
  • Working knowledge of embedded and hardware integration, including firmware constraints, command protocols, calibration, safety, OTA updates, and error-code telemetry.
  • Strong backend experience with backend services and integrations, plus a security foundation including hands-on asymmetric cryptography.
  • Track record leading large-scale refactors and modernization efforts and communicating architecture through diagrams, ADRs, and tradeoff analysis.
  • Comfort operating approximately 90% hands-on and 10% in architecture leadership.
  • React Native or Flutter experience is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, cross-functional influence, mentoring ability, strategic thinking, curiosity, and comfort working in a fast-moving environment.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) match, generous paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and a yearly lifestyle stipend.
  • Employee discounts and an inclusive, creative workplace.
