Responsibilities
- Own development of machine learning models and optimization algorithms for Via’s real-time dispatch system.
- Design and implement online algorithms for real-time decision-making across rides, drivers, and operational constraints.
- Model competing system demands and create scalable mathematical formulations.
- Apply statistical methods to analyze demand patterns, traffic dynamics, and fleet performance.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to research, prototype, deploy, and iterate algorithmic systems in production.
Requirements
- M.Sc. or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field.
- 8+ years of industry experience shipping machine learning models at production scale.
- Deep hands-on machine learning expertise, including significant reinforcement learning experience for complex, dynamic, or constrained systems.
- Excellent coding skills in Python or a similar language.
- Ability to translate ambiguous operational challenges into tractable machine learning formulations and measurable impact.
- Strong applied research, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
