Base Salary

$136k - $204k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain firmware for the XM4, Blackbird, and BigBuddy initiatives.
  • Design, implement, debug, and support production firmware that interfaces directly with hardware.
  • Build and customize embedded Linux distributions using the Yocto Project.
  • Integrate firmware with hardware, mobile, cloud, quality, product, and user experience teams.
  • Develop device drivers, peripheral interfaces, APIs, backend services, frontend components, automation tasks, and reusable web components as needed.
  • Improve firmware standardization, automated build processes, and development pipelines.
  • Analyze system performance, troubleshoot complex hardware/software issues, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers, support onboarding, promote development best practices, and contribute to technical leadership initiatives.
  • Define and estimate deliverables and align product and technical requirements with business goals.
  • Ensure software is scalable, maintainable, highly available, secure, and suitable for cloud hosting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 7 years of experience developing embedded software and firmware for hardware-based products, devices, or systems.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and experience developing and debugging production firmware.
  • Hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining embedded Linux systems.
  • Experience using the Yocto Project to create, customize, and maintain embedded Linux distributions.
  • Experience with hardware/software integration, device drivers, peripheral interfaces, and low-level system troubleshooting.
  • Experience developing firmware for connected devices, networking equipment, consumer electronics, test and measurement devices, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with source control, automated builds, continuous integration, and continuous deployment practices.
  • Ability to analyze system performance, diagnose complex technical issues, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Experience collaborating across hardware, software, quality assurance, product, and cloud engineering teams.
  • Ability to mentor engineers, promote development best practices, and influence technical decisions across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills.

  • Base pay is offered within the stated range based on job-related, nondiscriminatory factors, with additional benefits and potential bonus eligibility described by Comcast.
  • The position is based at the Comcast Technology Center in downtown Philadelphia or may be considered in the Englewood, Colorado area.
  • The position is not approved for remote or virtual employment; Comcast generally prefers onsite collaboration unless a role is designated virtual.
