Responsibilities
- Implement well-defined software features, user stories, bug fixes, and enhancements under senior-engineer guidance.
- Develop and maintain user interfaces, APIs, and backend logic using County standards for secure, accessible, maintainable code.
- Perform unit and integration testing, peer code reviews, troubleshooting, and defect resolution.
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation, design reviews, pair programming, demos, retrospectives, and other team activities.
- Support version control, build, deployment, continuous integration and deployment, and release coordination processes.
- Collaborate with product owners, designers, QA, UX, operations, infrastructure, data, help desk, and support teams.
- Document technical solutions, system flows, troubleshooting steps, development changes, and end-user or stakeholder guidance.
- Communicate technical challenges, task status, estimates, blockers, requirements, and acceptance criteria to teammates and stakeholders.
- Follow County development standards, accessibility guidelines, security policies, testing practices, and records-check requirements.
Requirements
- Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related job field.
- Three years of work-related experience in software development.
- Knowledge of one or more programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, or C#.
- Knowledge of Git, software testing practices, APIs, SQL, databases, frontend and backend development concepts, RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, DevOps practices, and cloud platforms.
- Ability to solve problems, learn new technologies, communicate effectively, collaborate in a team environment, adapt to new frameworks and libraries, and deliver quality software.
- Preferred certifications include Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate, AWS Developer Associate, a similar cloud certification, or Certified Scrum Developer/equivalent Agile certification.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License and good driving record; must provide a 10-year driving history and remain compliant with Dallas County requirements.
- Must be able to pass and maintain eligibility for a national fingerprint-based records check if the position provides access to criminal justice databases.
