Responsibilities

  • Design and implement novel algorithms and machine-learning methods for biosecurity research questions.
  • Contribute to AI and biosecurity research, scientific publications, and aligned product development.
  • Collaborate with research scientists and engineers to prototype, experiment, and scale AI research using software engineering practices.
  • Design biological datasets, evaluation methodologies, and infrastructure for novel research hypotheses.
  • Synthesize research findings into reports, presentations, documentation, and verbal briefings for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Biology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience with machine-learning algorithms and tools, such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
  • Preferred: PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Biology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred: experience applying deep-learning models to biological data, including functional genomics or protein sequence data.
  • Preferred: experience with life science data, such as bioinformatics or health informatics data.
  • Preferred: familiarity with biosecurity topics including metagenomic surveillance, de novo pathogen design, and LLM-based uplift.
  • Ability to solve ambiguous and complex technical and process problems spanning multiple teams and organizations.
