Base Salary

$143k - $304k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, implementation, and delivery of large-scale cloud services and AI-powered products.
  • Design and build secure, permission-aware retrieval and knowledge systems integrated with enterprise identity, authentication, and authorization platforms.
  • Drive scalability, reliability, performance, telemetry, monitoring, diagnostics, automation, and operational excellence across globally distributed cloud infrastructure.
  • Partner with stakeholders, customers, product managers, applied scientists, architects, and cross-functional teams to define requirements, metrics, and technical strategy.
  • Mentor engineers through technical leadership, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
  • Lead project planning, experimentation, deployment strategies, safe releases, and technical tradeoff evaluation.
  • Own live-site operations, incident response, root cause analysis, and operational playbooks.
  • Analyze production telemetry, customer feedback, and usage patterns to improve performance, quality, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Contribute to foundational services powering Microsoft Foundry, AI agents, enterprise knowledge experiences, and next-generation retrieval platforms.
  • Drive cross-team collaboration and maintain compliance with security, privacy, accessibility, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
  • Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems in cloud environments is preferred.
  • Strong software engineering skills in C#, Java, C++, Rust, or a comparable language are preferred.
  • Experience developing highly available services focused on reliability, performance, and maintainability is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native architectures, storage systems, networking, and service operations is preferred.
  • Experience with search technologies, information retrieval, ranking systems, vector databases, or recommendation systems is preferred.
  • Experience with AI/ML systems, LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, agent frameworks, or knowledge management platforms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Azure services, distributed data systems, and large-scale processing pipelines is preferred.
  • Experience building developer platforms, APIs, or enterprise SaaS products is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills are preferred.

Benefits

  • The typical U.S. base pay range is USD $142,800–$274,800 per year, with a separate San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area range of USD $188,000–$304,200 per year.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
  • The position will remain open for at least 5 days and applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until filled.
