Base Salary

$192k - $213k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate production pipelines processing infrared mission captures through L1 imagery, multispectral stacks, geolocation, orthomosaic tiles, hotspots, and derived wildfire products.
  • Optimize pipeline infrastructure, cloud services, algorithms, latency, and computational cost.
  • Build geospatial data discovery, hosting, serving infrastructure, and APIs for internal and customer-facing search, retrieval, visualization, and dissemination.
  • Develop internal geospatial data visualization and inspection tools.
  • Maintain and improve software testing, release, and deployment infrastructure and processes.
  • Productionize research code with remote-sensing data scientists by hardening error paths, adding tests and observability, and ensuring rerunnable and idempotent processing.
  • Implement end-to-end pipeline observability through structured logging, dashboards, metrics, alerts, and on-call ownership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years, master's degree with 6+ years, or PhD with 3+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience shipping and operating production Python data pipelines and backend services on AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with a modern workflow orchestrator such as Flyte, Airflow, Prefect, Argo, or Dagster, along with containerized deployments.
  • Strong production Python, unit and integration testing, Git-based trunk development, code review, and CI/CD experience.
  • Experience adding production-grade observability, including structured logging, metrics, dashboards, alerts, and on-call ownership.
  • Working geospatial knowledge and hands-on experience with libraries such as GDAL/OGR, rasterio, PROJ, or shapely and formats such as GeoTIFF, Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF, NetCDF, Zarr, or HDF.
  • Ability to collaborate with distributed, interdisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and program managers.
  • Preferred experience operating STAC catalogs and ingest/query paths using stac-fastapi, pystac, pgstac, or equivalent.
  • Preferred experience with xarray, Zarr, and NetCDF at scale, including chunked processing and streaming reads from S3.
  • Preferred experience building scientific data visualization or inspection tools, using Grafana, LogQL, Prometheus, or InfluxDB, and working with satellite ground-segment or remote-sensing pipelines.
  • Preferred experience with Flyte or Union.ai, Terraform/IaC for AWS resources, and productionizing scientific code written by non-engineers.
