Base Salary
$143k - $304k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define architecture and deliver foundational capabilities for the Virtualization Core Platform.
- Design, implement, and deliver virtualization features focused on the hypervisor and VMM.
- Design and evolve OpenVMM across Linux, Windows, and macOS.
- Improve virtualization-platform cost, performance, security, reliability, maintainability, testing, and operational readiness.
- Mentor engineers through design guidance, code reviews, and technical problem-solving.
- Influence architecture, technical priorities, platform strategy, and long-term vision across Windows Core and Azure.
- Diagnose complex low-level hardware and software interactions.
- Enable virtualization components on new silicon in collaboration with hardware partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience coding in C, C++, or Rust, including substantial systems or platform software work, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and applicable customer or government security screening requirements.
- Preferred: master’s degree with 8+ years of experience, or bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: 7+ years of experience in hypervisor, VMM, kernel, virtualization-stack, kernel-mode programming, and security work.
- Experience designing and implementing complex systems software and working in large codebases.
- Understanding of low-level hardware-software interactions and modern computer architectures in desktop PCs and servers.
- Experience with silicon bring-up and delivering complex, high-quality software across multiple product release cycles.
Benefits
- Typical U.S. base pay range is USD $142,800-$274,800 per year; a different range applies in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
- The position is open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until filled.
