Responsibilities
- Own product-level architecture and technical direction for embedded C/C++ software across multiple concurrent projects.
- Define engineering standards, drive consensus on complex technical trade-offs, and lead product-level architecture decisions.
- Coordinate cross-functional project delivery with QE, SE, PM, and external partners, including deadline accountability and technical risk resolution.
- Develop, test, and debug embedded software on Linux-based platforms for security panels, networking gateways, and video cameras.
- Integrate and validate cellular, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Z-Wave, Zigbee, and Matter connectivity with the Alarm.com cloud platform.
- Integrate on-device sensors into embedded software and translate sensor data into reliable user-facing features.
- Mentor senior and junior engineers, define team processes, and promote modern development practices including AI-assisted tooling.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 8 years of embedded software development experience with strong C/C++ proficiency on Linux-based platforms.
- Deep expertise with Linux platform build toolchains such as Yocto, buildroot, OpenWRT, or Android AOSP, including cross-compilation, kernel configuration, and BSP development.
- Experience with cellular technologies including LTE, Cat-M, and 5G; Wi-Fi; Ethernet; and IoT protocols including Z-Wave, Zigbee, and Matter.
- Ability to lead product-level architecture decisions, decompose complex system problems, and coordinate multi-project technical delivery.
- Strong communication skills, including explaining technical trade-offs to stakeholders and mentoring engineers at different experience levels.
