Responsibilities

  • Maintain and extend the core Optics Measurement and Correction framework and toolset used during LHC commissioning and operation.
  • Develop software to improve the efficiency and capability of optics measurements and corrections in the LHC.
  • Update accelerator-model creation and correction algorithms to use new simulation tools.
  • Explore and implement automation for key measurement and analysis workflows.
  • Develop GUIs and analysis tools for use in the CERN Control Centre during optics commissioning.
  • Participate in and contribute to the analysis of optics measurements in CERN accelerators.
  • Test, diagnose, and optimize existing software and contribute to knowledge-transfer activities.

Requirements

  • Background in programming and software design with experience in Python.
  • Familiarity with version-control systems and collaborative workflows, including GitHub.
  • Experience with GUI development.
  • Professional background in Physics, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Either a Master’s degree with 2–6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • Knowledge of particle accelerator physics and operation is advantageous.
  • Ability to prioritize work, deliver on timelines, collaborate effectively, communicate clearly, and share knowledge.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with commitment to learn the other language.
  • Must be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and must not previously have held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
