Responsibilities

  • Solve difficult engineering problems and ship production-ready software.
  • Make important architectural decisions and implement them through code.
  • Set standards for clean, observable, maintainable, and easy-to-evolve systems.
  • Mentor engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and context sharing.
  • Help establish Halter’s engineering pace and quality bar.
  • Evolve testing strategies, CI/CD workflows, and infrastructure patterns.
  • Own the reliability and performance of services, including participation in an on-call rotation.
  • Develop domain knowledge by working on farms.
  • Depending on focus, build frontend and mobile experiences, backend APIs and distributed systems, full-stack products, or platform tooling and infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Several years of experience shipping complex systems in production.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, work with low ego, and rally teams through challenging work.
  • Product-engineering mindset focused on customer experience.
  • Ability to use AI tools effectively to improve team output.
  • Experience developing other engineers through collaboration rather than direct management.
  • Comfort working in fast-moving and ambiguous environments.
  • Experience working in cloud environments; AWS is a bonus.
  • A software engineering degree or equivalent is nice to have but not required.
  • Frontend or mobile candidates should have strong UX intuition, modern frontend framework experience, and attention to performance on real devices.
  • Backend candidates should be comfortable building and scaling APIs and distributed or event-driven systems, with relational and non-relational databases; Node.js, Kotlin, Go, or hardware/IoT integration experience is a bonus.
  • Platform candidates should have strong AWS and Terraform experience at scale, including CI/CD, observability, and on-call tooling.
