Responsibilities
- Develop OTA services for firmware delivery, ECU/software configuration updates, and software-hardware mismatch detection and remediation.
- Design safe, resumable, rollback-capable full-image, differential, and A/B-partition software update strategies.
- Define compatibility frameworks with dependency graphs, precondition checks, and campaign eligibility rules.
- Collaborate with Palo Alto and cloud/backend teams on architecture, APIs, data contracts, telemetry, eligibility services, and release planning.
- Integrate OTA services with ECUs and cloud endpoints through automotive communication and security protocols.
- Partner with QA, functional safety, cybersecurity, and vehicle integration teams on bench, HIL, and vehicle-level validation.
- Lead Germany-site technical planning, architecture reviews, design reviews, code quality, delivery execution, and technical debt initiatives.
- Mentor Senior and mid-level engineers and review designs and code for correctness, performance, and maintainability.
- Support root-cause analysis and resolution of field update failures, mismatches, and rollback issues.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex issues spanning firmware, middleware, and cloud interfaces.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant embedded, systems, or automotive software experience.
- Demonstrated ownership of system or platform architecture for a production software product in automotive, IoT, or another safety- or reliability-critical domain.
- Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple engineers or teams and collaborating across sites or organizations.
- Strong hands-on proficiency in C++ and Rust.
- Understanding of embedded Linux, POSIX environments, and resource-constrained automotive compute platforms.
- Experience with in-vehicle and vehicle-to-cloud communication protocols such as CAN/CAN-FD, Automotive Ethernet, SOME/IP, UDS/DoIP, TLS, MQTT, gRPC, and Protobuf.
- Experience defining APIs, data contracts, and failure-handling behavior across vehicle-cloud boundaries.
- Experience with version control, code review workflows, and CI/CD for embedded or systems software.
- Working knowledge of digital signatures, certificate and key management, and secure boot chains.
- Strong debugging skills across application, operating-system/driver, hardware, and bus layers.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Fluent English is required; German language skills are a plus.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to Palo Alto or support virtual overlap hours.
- Preferred qualifications include automotive OTA, distributed-site scaling, edge AI/ML, AUTOSAR Adaptive, Yocto, ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434, SBOM tooling, HIL, diagnostic tooling, containerization, and embedded virtualization experience.
