Responsibilities
- Build distributed compute engines for data and AI workloads, including query optimization, CPU/GPU scheduling, workload forecasting, and autoscaling.
- Design large-scale storage architectures covering data tiering, hot/cold data detection, layout, compression, caching, and I/O optimization.
- Develop multimodal data processing, data quality, metadata, natural-language query, text-to-SQL, hybrid retrieval, embeddings, reranking, agentic search, and RAG capabilities.
- Build self-managing systems for monitoring, anomaly detection, root-cause analysis, performance tuning, capacity planning, and automated remediation.
- Design cloud data platform architecture that integrates storage, compute, retrieval, and model serving for AI-native workloads.
- Lead key modules or cross-module architecture, establish technical roadmaps, run design reviews, mentor engineers, and drive complex work into production.
- Apply ML, LLMs, agents, and reinforcement learning to infrastructure problems, including reward modeling, policy optimization, feedback learning, and system optimization.
- Train, fine-tune, and distill in-house models and share results through open source and top-tier conferences.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, with 5+ years of software engineering experience.
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networking, and system design.
- Excellent written and spoken English and proficiency in Chinese Mandarin, with approximately 50% of the role involving collaboration with Tencent headquarters in China.
- Expertise in at least one of C++, Python, Java, Go, or Rust, with the ability to write high-quality, well-tested code and debug complex systems.
- Hands-on experience building storage, compute, database, data infrastructure, or AI infrastructure systems, with deep expertise in at least one area.
- Strong performance engineering skills across algorithms, models, compute, storage, networking, and scheduling, demonstrated through profiling, benchmarking, and metrics.
- Solid understanding of machine learning, LLMs, or AI agents and the ability to evaluate their accuracy, cost, and reliability for production systems.
- Track record of leading architecture for large-scale core systems, setting technical roadmaps, leading design reviews, and mentoring engineers.
- Preferred qualifications include top-tier publications in databases, storage, systems, or AI; open-source contributions; AI-for-infrastructure projects; and production experience with GPU operators, inference engines, multimodal data pipelines, cloud-native multi-tenant systems, or serverless systems.
- Experience with distributed storage, query engines, database internals, data lakehouses, resource scheduling, databases, Spark, or Ray is preferred.
