Responsibilities
- Build and improve search across multiple entity types.
- Develop geospatial search, indexing, query planning, retrieval, and ranking capabilities.
- Design search-quality metrics and feedback loops.
- Run offline evaluations and production experiments.
- Tune search results using relevance, popularity, personalization, and contextual signals.
- Explore semantic or embedding-based search where useful.
- Collaborate with backend and product teams to ship search improvements.
Requirements
- Senior-level experience building production search systems.
- Strong understanding of indexing, query planning, retrieval, and ranking.
- Experience with geospatial search.
- Experience with search-quality metrics, experimentation, and feedback loops.
- Experience evaluating, tuning, extending, or building search and indexing systems beyond basic API usage.
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals.
- Ability to reason about latency, relevance, correctness, and scale.
- Preferred experience with local search, maps, discovery, multi-entity search, semantic search, embeddings, ranking, recommendations, personalization, or Rust search and indexing systems.
