Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable distributed services and data-processing pipelines using Spark and Scala/PySpark.
- Build reliable batch and streaming systems with predictable latency and throughput.
- Develop Python services and contribute to JVM-based systems.
- Improve system performance, reliability, observability, and operational efficiency.
- Design state-management, retry, recovery, replay, idempotency, and consistency mechanisms.
- Evaluate distributed frameworks and make architectural decisions.
- Diagnose production issues involving latency, resource pressure, data skew, concurrency, and inconsistent state.
- Establish service-level indicators and capacity-planning practices.
- Build unit, integration, performance, and failure-recovery tests.
- Lead technical designs and migrations for complex platform components.
- Write design documents, operational runbooks, and implementation plans.
- Review code, mentor engineers, and collaborate with backend, ML, data, infrastructure, and product teams.
- Participate in operational support and improve production readiness.
Requirements
- Strong professional experience building production backend, data-platform, or distributed-processing systems, especially with Spark or PySpark.
- Advanced Python and Java software-engineering skills.
- Experience with a distributed processing framework such as Spark, Ray, Flink, or Databricks.
- Experience with Kafka or another distributed event-streaming platform.
- Strong understanding of distributed-system failure modes, partitioning, workload skew, concurrency, synchronization, idempotency, delivery guarantees, state management, checkpointing, backpressure, load shedding, retries, recovery, replay, and system resource costs.
- Experience with distributed databases or large-scale state stores.
- Strong testing, debugging, profiling, and production-diagnostics skills.
- Experience operating containerized services in Kubernetes or a similar environment.
- Ability to independently drive work from investigation through production delivery.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
