Responsibilities
- Own the multi-year technical vision and architecture for Procore’s mobile platform across iOS, Android, shared logic, backend, and cloud services.
- Define architectural standards and reference patterns that enable features to be built once and shared across platforms.
- Lead strategy for offline-first synchronization, conflict resolution, CI/CD and release infrastructure, observability, crash and performance telemetry, and mobile security.
- Make high-impact decisions about GraphQL subgraphs, backend-for-frontend architecture, data ownership, service boundaries, and mobile-backend API contracts.
- Prototype high-risk architectural approaches, write production-quality code, and build proofs of concept before broader adoption.
- Mentor Principal and Staff engineers and raise engineering standards through architecture reviews, design forums, and technical strategy sessions.
- Partner with backend, platform, infrastructure, engineering leadership, product, and UX teams to deliver a durable technical roadmap.
- Guide the technical direction for AI-assisted mobile and backend engineering.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or comparable work experience.
- 15+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems across mobile, cloud, and backend services.
- 5+ years operating at Principal level or above with cross-team or organization-wide technical scope.
- Deep current expertise in native mobile development with Swift/iOS and Kotlin, Java, or Android, plus modern backend and cloud stacks.
- Experience with Ruby on Rails, Java, Go, Node.js, GraphQL, REST, and distributed systems design.
- Hands-on experience with Kotlin Multiplatform or comparable shared-logic approaches and GraphQL federation or backend-for-frontend patterns at scale.
- Broad exposure to offline-first synchronization, mobile CI/CD and release automation, observability, crash and performance telemetry, or mobile security practices such as SAST, DAST, SCA, and OWASP MASVS.
- Track record of defining and delivering multi-year technical strategies involving platform consolidation, re-architecture, or cross-platform initiatives.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to write code, build prototypes, and validate architectural decisions personally.
- Interest or hands-on experience integrating AI tooling into the software development lifecycle or mobile/backend products.
- Exceptional judgment, communication, stakeholder alignment, and technical influence skills.

- Hybrid schedule requiring three days per week in the Austin, Texas office.
