Base Salary
$186k - $223k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve scalable vehicle modeling and simulation architecture across vehicle types, sensor platforms, and fleet variability.
- Develop and maintain high-fidelity truck and vehicle dynamics models covering nominal, off-nominal, and failure-mode scenarios.
- Define statistical validation metrics and robustness-testing frameworks supporting safety-case claims, large-scale V&V, and reinforcement-learning training.
- Design and maintain closed-loop simulation platforms, automated regression frameworks, and system-level verification strategies.
- Partner with autonomy engineering teams to support planning, controls, system integration, and vehicle-model requirements.
- Analyze simulation and hardware-in-the-loop issues, guide data acquisition and telemetry test plans, and refine vehicle models using field data.
- Communicate model capabilities, limitations, technical direction, design decisions, and release information across teams.
- Drive cross-organizational architecture decisions, collaborate with OEM partners and simulation vendors, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field plus 10+ years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree plus 7+ years; or a PhD plus 3+ years.
- Deep proficiency in C++, with Python for tooling, ROS/ROS2, CMake, and Linux.
- Strong experience with physics-based ground-vehicle modeling, including longitudinal and lateral dynamics, tire models, and powertrain systems.
- Working knowledge of autonomous-vehicle planning, controls, and system integration architectures.
- Experience defining statistical validation metrics, robustness-testing frameworks, unit/integration/regression tests, automated validation pipelines, and simulation benchmarking at scale.
- Demonstrated ability to drive technical consensus, own systems across multiple repositories, make architectural decisions, and mentor engineers.
- Preferred qualifications include technical leadership of vehicle-simulation teams, heavy-vehicle or truck-and-trailer modeling, large-scale closed-loop AV simulation, scenario-based validation, sim-to-real correlation, and learned-model simulation workflows.
