Base Salary
$131k - $200k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and evolution of reliability, availability, and resiliency strategies for large-scale distributed systems primarily written in Java.
- Identify systemic risks and drive architectural improvements that increase availability, performance, and scalability.
- Lead incident prevention, detection, mitigation, major-incident coordination, and durable post-incident remediation.
- Build internal platforms, automation, and tooling to reduce toil and improve observability for Java-based services.
- Advance monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, and SLO/SLI adoption across systems.
- Influence system designs and reliability standards across engineering and mentor SREs and other engineers.
- Contribute to long-term reliability and infrastructure strategy aligned with business growth.
Requirements
- US citizenship or permanent residency is required due to ITAR requirements, and applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
- Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement from the Boston office and participate in an on-call rotation approximately once every 10 weeks.
- At least 10 years of experience in software engineering, site reliability engineering, or systems engineering roles.
- Extremely strong proficiency with Java and its ecosystem, including building, debugging, and operating production Java services.
- Deep experience operating complex distributed systems in production and a strong track record of delivering maintainable software.
- Expertise in incident management, service reliability, performance engineering, observability, capacity planning, and SLO-driven reliability.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and failure modes across application, data, and infrastructure layers.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-team initiatives, make high-impact technical decisions, communicate effectively, and influence engineering stakeholders.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with MongoDB, ZooKeeper, RabbitMQ, AWS, Java performance tuning, scalability optimization, and organizational SRE or platform practice development.
