Base Salary

$145k - $170k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own firmware architecture for multi-core embedded subsystems and define hardware datapath engines with associated firmware control.
  • Partition designs across hardware, firmware, and software while collaborating with ASIC/SoC, digital design, verification, board, and systems teams.
  • Bring up RTOS environments, BSPs, drivers, schedulers, bootloaders, secure boot, key provisioning, recovery, and rollback flows.
  • Implement and validate low-power firmware strategies involving clock and power domains, sleep states, retention, and wake sources.
  • Develop drivers and middleware for USB, JTAG, I²C, SPI, GPIO, UART, DMA, and other hardware modules.
  • Build production firmware and support transitions from prototyping platforms through manufacturing.
  • Create Windows and Linux host-side drivers, diagnostics, provisioning utilities, and kernel/user-space interfaces.
  • Define unit, hardware-in-the-loop, integration, and continuous-integration testing workflows and enforce quality through reviews and static analysis.
  • Support board bring-up and validation using schematics, layouts, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
  • Contribute to functional safety requirements, traceability, FMEA, fault trees, and safety mechanisms.
  • Document designs and make architecture and implementation decisions amid ambiguity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience as a firmware, hardware/SoC architect, or senior embedded firmware engineer.
  • Experience with multiple embedded processor subsystems and integration into ASIC/SoC platforms.
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture and operating-system principles, including memory, concurrency, scheduling, interrupts, and caches.
  • Experience selecting and bringing up RTOS platforms such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or ThreadX, including BSPs, bootloaders, and startup code.
  • Experience with low-power firmware design and measurement, secure boot, signing, key management, recovery, OTA updates, and rollback.
  • Experience developing drivers and interfacing with USB, JTAG, I²C, SPI, UART, and DMA hardware modules.
  • Firmware and driver development experience for Windows and Linux.
  • Ability to read schematics and layouts and perform hardware/firmware co-debugging.
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD, and network or protocol analyzers.
  • Experience implementing test-driven development, unit and integration test frameworks, and Git-based continuous-integration workflows.
  • Experience defining hardware datapath engines coupled with firmware control loops.
  • Automotive or functional-safety experience, such as ISO 26262, or experience in a similar safety-critical domain.
  • Experience with performance and power profiling, constrained-system optimization, Python, CMake, Yocto, or automation tooling for hardware-in-the-loop rigs.
  • Knowledge of MISRA-C, CERT C, static analysis, and coverage tools.
  • Strong written and spoken communication and the ability to make sound tradeoffs with limited information.
