Responsibilities

  • Own the health, quality, reliability, and operational support of team systems, including on-call and first-responder rotations.
  • Collect, classify, and analyze system and product metrics to identify issues and guide engineering decisions.
  • Automate production and deployment processes and improve development quality, velocity, and developer tooling.
  • Ensure security, privacy, safety, accessibility, and compliance practices, including audit logs and system reports.
  • Use service health indicators such as SLOs to prioritize work and collaborate on project, release, and work plans.
  • Write architecture proposals, run experiments, build prototypes, and design systems for planetary scale.
  • Design and implement APIs for integration between software components.
  • Set up automated CI/CD pipelines and design, develop, test, ship, and support scalable technical solutions across GitHub services.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in software engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline with production software coding experience; alternatives include an associate degree plus 5+ years, bachelor's degree plus 4+ years, master's degree plus 2+ years, a doctorate, or equivalent experience.
  • Production coding experience in one or more of C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
  • Preferred: experience with production system monitoring and observability across network, application, caching, queuing, load-balancing, storage, and distributed-services layers.
  • Preferred: strong understanding of testing principles and high-quality software engineering practices.
  • Preferred: 2+ years of experience in systems programming, search index internals, and information retrieval.
  • Preferred: experience solving problems with large-scale distributed systems.
  • Ability to work autonomously, learn quickly, communicate effectively, and set technical direction.
