Staff Engineer - API-team - Product Platforms
AlphaSenseResponsibilities
- Serve as technical owner for API-first systems within the team and domain
- Design, build, and evolve high-scale APIs for internal teams, external customers, and intelligent agents
- Apply API governance, versioning strategies, and backward compatibility
- Contribute to API standards, design principles, and best practices through implementation and technical reviews
- Solve complex problems with ambiguous requirements and real-world constraints
- Partner with Product, Platform, and SRE teams to make APIs reliable, observable, secure, and scalable
- Identify and reduce technical risks within the domain
- Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through example
Requirements
- Significant experience as a senior or staff-level software engineer working on applications and backend systems
- Experience building product platforms or shared services consumed by multiple teams
- Track record of designing, building, and operating APIs at scale
- Strong hands-on experience with RESTful APIs
- Some experience designing, using, or operating GraphQL in production
- Solid understanding of system design, performance, reliability, and system evolution
- Strong hands-on contribution and ownership of production systems
- Ability to influence technical direction across teams through credibility and execution
- Experience with agentic or AI-driven workflows, MCP, large-scale distributed systems, or close collaboration with platform and SRE teams is preferred
