Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimize 100+ managed databases for performance, security, reliability, and availability.
- Monitor database health, diagnose bottlenecks, and recommend actionable improvements.
- Own database cost and capacity planning, including instance sizing, spend forecasting, and seasonal scaling.
- Improve schemas, indexes, query performance, autovacuum configuration, connection pooling, and data access patterns.
- Collaborate on complex queries and migrations and review feature data models, schema changes, and query patterns.
- Lead initiatives to minimize downtime during database maintenance.
- Mentor engineering team members and establish SQL and database best practices.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a Database Engineer managing and optimizing databases.
- At least 5 years of SQL experience and experience with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL.
- Strong ability to diagnose database performance issues and develop solutions.
- Experience implementing database best practices and ensuring minimal downtime.
- Experience with managed cloud database infrastructure; RDS is preferred.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills focused on data integrity, accessibility, and scalable solutions.
