Base Salary
$173k - $216k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own production PostgreSQL/RDS database portfolios through query review, schema change approval, performance tuning, and incident triage.
- Operate and evolve the Kafka/MSK streaming platform, including topic lifecycle management, cluster health, and Debezium CDC pipeline reliability.
- Build and maintain self-service tooling for product teams to provision database and streaming resources.
- Lead stability, operator and version upgrade, root-cause remediation, capacity optimization, and cost optimization initiatives.
- Serve as the technical escalation point for incidents involving shared data infrastructure such as replication lag, connection exhaustion, and CPU or throughput issues.
- Represent Platform Storage in cross-organizational infrastructure and standardization initiatives.
- Mentor engineers and participate in on-call rotations.
Requirements
- 8+ years of platform, infrastructure, or database engineering experience.
- Deep hands-on production experience operating PostgreSQL/RDS at scale.
- Strong production experience operating Kafka, including topic management and CDC or event-streaming pipelines.
- Strong SQL skills for diagnosing query performance issues and reviewing schema changes.
- Expertise with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Experience owning production database reliability across multiple downstream teams.
- Strong cross-team communication and technical partnership skills.
- Preferred experience with GitOps-managed Kubernetes operators such as Strimzi or equivalent.
- Preferred operational experience with MongoDB or DynamoDB.
- Preferred experience with pgbouncer, connection pooling, query-level performance diagnostics, and platform cost optimization at multi-cluster scale.
- Exposure to regulated or high-availability environments such as gaming or fintech is preferred.
