Responsibilities
- Architect and design secure, scalable, maintainable Databricks web applications using React, TypeScript, Python, and FastAPI.
- Lead development of responsive and accessible React interfaces with reusable components, state management, and design-system standards.
- Design and implement Python and FastAPI backend services, APIs, validation, asynchronous workflows, and integration layers.
- Integrate FastAPI services with Delta Lake, Databricks SQL warehouses, jobs, notebooks, Unity Catalog, and model-serving endpoints.
- Define frontend-backend contracts, API versioning, error handling, caching, state management, and application performance standards.
- Implement authentication, authorization, service principals, secrets management, and Unity Catalog-aligned data access controls.
- Establish automated testing, CI/CD, and production deployment practices for applications and Databricks integrations.
- Optimize API latency, frontend responsiveness, Databricks queries, compute usage, reliability, observability, and cost.
- Lead and mentor a team of one to two full-stack Databricks application developers and enforce engineering and code review standards.
- Collaborate with product owners, UX designers, data engineers, data scientists, and stakeholders in Agile delivery.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including production full-stack web application development and data-platform integration.
- 2+ years of experience in a technical leadership or team lead role.
- Advanced Python skills and strong hands-on experience designing production APIs and services with FastAPI.
- Strong React and TypeScript experience, including component architecture, hooks, routing, state management, responsive design, and accessibility.
- Strong hands-on experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Databricks SQL, Unity Catalog, and applications deployed on or integrated with the platform.
- Experience integrating FastAPI applications with Databricks APIs, SQL warehouses, jobs, notebooks, and model-serving endpoints.
- Strong knowledge of API design, OpenAPI, asynchronous programming, data validation, error handling, and application security.
- Experience with authentication and authorization patterns such as OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect, service principals, secrets, and secure coding practices.
- Track record of converting analytical prototypes into reliable, scalable, production-ready React and FastAPI applications.
- Excellent communication, technical leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field.
- Preferred experience with React tools and libraries including Vite, Redux Toolkit or React Query, Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright.
- Preferred experience with Python tools including Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, Pytest, dependency management, linting, and type checking.
- Preferred experience with Databricks Asset Bundles, Databricks CLI, Git-based workflows, Docker, and automated application deployment.
- Preferred experience operating Databricks and web application workloads on Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Preferred familiarity with MLflow, Mosaic AI Model Serving, application observability, performance monitoring, and AI-enabled application patterns.
