
Senior Embedded Linux Software Engineer – Robotics Platform (DeviceOS)

Responsibilities
- Own the deployed compute boot sequence, including firmware, U-Boot/UEFI, unified kernel images, initrd, encrypted storage unlock, and NixOS handoff.
- Customize and sustain vendor BSPs such as Tegra/Jetson Linux and NXP, including kernel and device-tree patches and forward-porting across OS upgrades.
- Ensure cameras, radars, motor controllers, CAN networks, radios, and other peripherals enumerate deterministically and operate reliably.
- Maintain signed boot chains, disk encryption, vendor kernels, and low-level components while triaging and remediating CVEs in field-deployed systems.
- Build and maintain automated hardware-in-the-loop test suites for power states, bus communication, and platform stability.
- Perform hardware/software root-cause analysis using serial consoles, logic analyzers, dmesg, schematics, and board-level debugging.
- Triage upstream Linux kernel and vendor BSP issues and produce and maintain patches when upstream fixes are unavailable.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of professional embedded Linux platform, deployed embedded Linux sustainment, or kernel-adjacent integration experience.
- Deep knowledge of embedded Linux boot chains, firmware and bootloaders, device trees, kernel command lines, initrd/initramfs, and root filesystem assembly.
- Strong C programming skills for kernel, driver, and BSP work, plus proficiency in Rust or C++ for userspace platform integration.
- Hands-on hardware debugging experience with serial consoles, schematics, component datasheets, and board-level diagnosis.
- Experience maintaining software on real-world hardware with safe, resilient updates and rigorous regression validation.
- U.S. Person status and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance are required.
- Preferred qualifications include Nix/NixOS or Yocto/Buildroot experience, NVIDIA Jetson/Tegra and JetPack expertise, CUDA runtime integration, hardware root-of-trust or secure-boot experience, Python or Bash HIL automation, Haskell or functional-programming familiarity, and upstream contributions to Linux kernel, U-Boot, or system-level open-source projects.
