Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable components of distributed systems and data-plane platforms for large-scale retrieval, storage, and processing.
- Develop fault-tolerant services using redundancy, replication, automatic failover, retries, circuit breakers, and timeouts.
- Create performance, load, fault-injection, and brown-out tests to validate scalability, correctness, and availability.
- Build alarms, dashboards, telemetry, alerting, runbooks, and operational procedures to detect and recover from failures.
- Diagnose and resolve operational issues, participate in support rotations and incident response, and conduct root-cause investigations.
- Develop automation scripts, troubleshooting tools, and infrastructure-as-code for cloud infrastructure maintenance.
- Apply encryption, access controls, remediation plans, threat modeling, and compliance practices in multi-tenant environments.
- Track work with limited supervision, collaborate across teams, prioritize changing requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of distributed service engineering experience in a software development environment.
- Hands-on experience building and operating highly available, high-traffic web services.
- Experience developing service-oriented architectures and RESTful web services.
- Strong development experience in Java.
- Experience with JavaScript, Terraform, OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, and CI/CD.
- Experience with at least one scripting language for automation, proof-of-concept work, or command-line tools.
- Preferred experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Oracle.
- Preferred experience with multi-availability-domain/availability-zone and regional data center architectures.
- Preferred experience building continuous integration and deployment pipelines with robust testing and deployment schedules.
- Preferred experience with Docker, identity and access management, internal-customer collaboration, and threat modeling or other risk-identification techniques.
