Responsibilities

Design and develop APIs, backend services, tools, and data pipelines for data indexing, retrieval, visualization, reporting, and process automation.
Build, maintain, test, and document software and tooling.
Review and approve merge requests, software architecture designs, and software requirements while helping establish technical standards.
Lead trade studies, refine and prioritize the product backlog, and facilitate stand-ups, retrospectives, and sprint planning.
Demonstrate, deploy, support, and provide training for operational software.
Coach and mentor junior engineers and serve as deputy for the Data Engineering Team Lead when required.

Tertiary qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge.
At least 5 years of experience in a software engineering discipline.
Strong Python development experience, including designing and building REST APIs and services.
Experience with Pandas, NumPy, ETL pipelines, SQL, and relational databases.
Experience with Git, issue trackers such as Jira or Redmine, CI/CD, containerisation, and agile development practices.
Strong communication, planning, prioritization, judgment, and delivery skills.
Preferred qualifications include Kubernetes, data visualization, data science, numerical analysis, web application and user interface development, and experience as a technical lead or mentor.

Based in Auckland, New Zealand, with domestic and international travel potentially required.
Opportunity to work on operational data systems supporting rockets, spacecraft, manufacturing, testing, research and development, and day-to-day operations.
