Base Salary
$120k - $180k/yr
Responsibilities
- Translate research ideas into correct, robust, and scalable high-quality code.
- Engage in programming language design and implementation.
- Perform performance engineering and scale research code.
- Develop algorithms.
- Contribute to the culture and direction of Basis.
- Optionally publish and present findings in journals and conferences.
Requirements
- Excellent programming and software engineering skills, especially in Julia, Python, C++, and ML-family languages.
- Demonstrated ability to drive software projects from start to finish through open-source projects, technical reports, publications, or comparable work.
- Ability to digest research from programming languages and/or machine learning venues such as PLDI, POPL, NeurIPS, or ICML.
- Demonstrated significant technical achievements in ML engineering, such as implementing new techniques from scratch or building distributed large-model training systems.
- Experience building systems spanning high-level API infrastructure through close-to-the-metal code is an example of relevant technical achievement.
- A PhD or equivalent experience in statistics, programming languages, machine learning, computational neuroscience, cognitive science, physics, mathematics, or a related technical area is advantageous.
- Ability to work autonomously under uncertainty and collaboratively on technically challenging problems.
