Responsibilities
- Lead engineering teams and define the technical direction of Coupang’s core data-serving backend systems.
- Develop the team’s technical vision and build next-generation platforms capable of handling millions of requests from users worldwide.
- Lead the design and architecture of scalable, reliable backend and infrastructure platforms.
- Define technical roadmaps for mission-critical projects and align stakeholders with lead engineers.
- Introduce software development best practices and improve the engineering capabilities of the team.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to build extensible platforms supporting Coupang’s Korea, Taiwan, and Japan businesses.
Requirements
- At least three years of professional software development experience, excluding internships.
- At least three years of experience designing and developing software with Java or Kotlin.
- At least three years of experience leading the design or architecture of new and existing systems, including reliability and scalability considerations.
- Experience mentoring, leading technical initiatives, or managing engineering teams.
- Experience defining technical vision and roadmaps for mission-critical projects and aligning stakeholders with lead engineers.
- Experience working with microservices architecture and scaling systems to web scale.
- Experience investigating and resolving critical system issues.
- Knowledge and application of internal and industry software design best practices.
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams to build open and extensible platforms.
- A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Computer Science is preferred.
- Preferred experience includes scalable, highly available distributed multi-tier services; large-scale global system architecture; AWS; Kubernetes; identity, authentication, and PII-related backend platforms; and data pipelines using Spark, Hadoop, Cassandra, Kafka, or Airflow.
